Notes to self, a journal for the kids. Yesterday, 5 years ago, I finished IMAZ 2012, for real, did not miss the cut off like the year before, but finished it. Thinking to myself, pretty damn good for age 49 to finish an IM, should have started sooner. If you guys have the chance, go for it, do it while you are young, not that it isn't fun now. But you can probably get more races in.
I tuned into the IMAZ 2017 held yesterday, they changed the swim start from the massive 3000 competitor all at once grand prix start to wave starts from the stairs. I am so very fortunate to have experienced that start, twice...., just absolutely amazing, the electricity in the water, treading water with 3000 fellow competitors, The Rolling Stones blaring over the speakers, 1000's of spectators on the bridge and lining the walls, the darkness, and the white lights, looked like a scene out of Apocalypse Now.

My biggest take away was remembering a girl, with one leg, Sarah Reinersten, we traded places on the run several times, never said a word to each other, she finished 3 mins ahead of me. She is a motivational speaker, teacher, writer as well as one hell of a Triathlete. Will always remember that.
Any whoo the moral of Fletch's once in a blue moon diatribe is to get out there and race, have fun, enjoy the moment, and above all, really, really enjoy your accomplishments, you deserve to enjoy them. See you on the race course.
